Pumpkins on our Porch

Wednesday, the rain and cold here finally took a rest for an afternoon so we jumped on the opportunity to get outside and carve our pumpkins. Trevor's pumpkin was too small to carve, so instead we put his handprints and footprints on it so that it looks like a face. Today is starting out as a nice day, hopefully it will hold out until Shaner gets home from work, so that we can get some pictures of Trevor in his costume on the front porch.

Pumpkins!

This past Saturday we decided that it was about time we get our Halloween pumpkins. We headed out to Virginia Beach to go to Hunt Club Farms to pick our pumpkins. In addition to the pumpkins they have pony rides for the kids, hayrides and a petting farm. (At night its a haunted hayride etc..) Trevor is too young for all of that this year but it was nice to get out and enjoy the weather as a family.

Kim's Birthday and a Friendly Visit

On my birthday, I decided that I wanted to make grocery shopping and going out to eat a bit more enjoyable for all three of us, so we drove out to Greenbrier to get Trevor a floppy seat. It really is the gift that keeps on giving....Now that Trevor can sit up like a pro, he would much rather (of course) do so when we are out shopping and eating rather than sit in his carrier. We went out to dinner at Red Robin and Trevor loved being able to sit up in the high chair at the table. (Since then we have also used the floppy seat at Target and it was a MILLION times better...not that Trevor is ever that bad in public, but being all confined like that would make anyone fuss)

After dinner, since we were already out that way, we stopped by Whitney and Noah's house to say hello since it had been a while, we had several missed connections and we had missed Izzy's 2nd birthday party since we were moving that day..... It was so interesting to see Trevor and Tanner together (nevermind that Trevor started fussing as soon as we tried to put them down together...he did fine later on after we had been there a while)

We visited for a while and then headed home for the evening once it was getting close to bedtime.

Race for the Cure Weekend

On the weekend of October 17/18, my cousins Lynn and Thomas drove down from Connecticut to visit. Lynn and I participated in the Race for the Cure at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and had a great time. Despite the rainy weather, we did the 5k, had a great time and supported a very important cause! Can't wait for next year! After the Race, we headed back to the house where the boys were hanging out (the weather wasn't the best to take Trevor out there) and we got ready for the rest of our day. We went to Caylee's first birthday party at Laura and Mike's house. I can't believe that she is one already! She and Trevor didn't play much because every time we put Trevor down on the floor he would start to cry--new place and tons of people was probably a little overwheming for him. We had a good time visiting with everyone though! After the birthday party we headed to the base so that Lynn and Thomas could see all of the ships and then we headed to No Frill for an early dinner. Everyone was exhuasted from the long day so we called it a night pretty early so that I could make it to work in the morning and they could leave in the morning for their drive home. Thanks for visiting us in our new home guys! It was great to see you!

Happy Birthday Shane!

Today we celebrated Shane's 28th birthday! Happy Birthday! We spent the day spending time as a family and went out to dinner this evening as a family at Outback. Here is a picture of the birthday boy and Trevor before we went out to dinner.

Happy Birthday Shane/Daddy, we love you very much!

The New Place

Today was moving day, so we are getting ready to settle in for our first night in the new house. We went nonstop from about 7am until 7pm and are exhausted....it has been a long week, and we still have tons of unpacking to do, but we are proud to say that we are finally home. Furthermore, here are some pictures of the new place. I do want to add that even though we had a 12 hour day of moving today, it was nothing compared to what we did between closing and that first box hitting the back of the u-haul this morning. Shane and I will be opening our housepainting business in the spring. (just kidding)
In a matter of 4 days (half-days really, because we both worked most of the week) we turned this:

Into this:

(Please excuse the moving mess)
Now we are off to bed--for the first time, in our house.

October is...

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!!!!

Shane is currently fussing at me to put on painting clothes and head to the house to do some painting. This procrastination is 100% worthwhile though. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month--so put on those pink ribbons and spread the word! For more information, go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

I KNEW being an overachiever would have its downside....

OK, so I know that at the end of my last post I promised pictures of the house pre-painting. Well, being the go-getter that I am, I kind of overlooked the whole taking pictures thing.....and painted almost half the house. So, there will be no stark before and after photos of the house :(, I will get some up later tonight though so that everyone can at least see the inside of the house.

That said, our current painting status:
  • The master bedroom is all painted--except for the vanity alcove and adjoining bath (waiting for my mother's advice on how to tackle that one)
  • Trevor's room is just waiting for a second coat on the bottom half (we are re-creating his current room at the new house). Wall border will go up Friday.
  • I get to go pick out a color for the guest room on my own this afternoon (Shane might regret that :) )
  • Hopefully by the end of today the living room and hallway will be painted and the guest room will be cut in at least.

Not too shabby, considering we have owned the place for what, four days? Anyway, I know it is boring for me to update with what we have and haven't painted with no pictures---but it holds us accountable to actually painting the place, as I am honestly losing steam on this whole painting thing.

Everyone have a great day!
