Congratulations Christopher!

This past weekend, my brother graduated from high school.  Congratulations Woodbridge Senior High School Class of 2010!  (Although, 2010 will never be as awesome as the Class of 2003—if any of my fellow graduates even read this :) )

Shane had Friday off, so we headed up to Woodbridge around 10 and arrived up there right before 1pm….traffic wasn’t too bad, just your typical I-64 nonsense.  Once we arrived, Trevor got settled into Grammy’s house (read= getting into anything he possibly could) and we all relaxed.  My brother’s girlfriend stopped by for a bit and then the two of them headed off to GMU to see the Gar-Field (look, I even give the school the dignity of their hyphen Liz) graduation at the Patriot Center.  Grammy, Grampy, Shane, Trevor and I ran out to Lowes to get some stuff for projects that Shane could help my dad out with and then came home.  The five of us took a walk after we got back and took Trevor to a playground by the house that had a wooden train and small slide/jungle gym.  Trevor had tons of fun playing on the train and going down the slide.  Of course, my camera died before we made it to the slide, but here are some pictures of Trevor playing on the train:  DSC03987 DSC03991 DSC03996 DSC03998 DSC03999

Once we got back to the house, Trevor got a bath and we put him down for the night.  Shane and I were then able to go out for a couple of hours to have some alone time.  This was the 4th time we have ever gone somewhere without him (one of those time's was when we closed on the house, go figure) in the past 15 months, so we were really excited to have a couple of hours to ourselves.

Saturday morning was my brother’s graduation ceremony, so my mom, dad and I headed over to the high school for it.  Shane stayed home with Trevor—we figured the sun and heat would have been too much for him since it was taking place on the football field.  After the ceremony we went to lunch together and then Christopher went off to graduation parties for the rest of the day.  DSC04008 DSC04009 DSC04015 DSC04018 DSC04019 DSC04020 DSC04023 DSC04025 DSC04028 DSC04030 DSC04031

Sunday everyone went to the 9am mass at SEAS where all of the senior/graduate altar servers were serving for mass.  It was a group of seven of them who had been serving since they were in 3rd grade.  Fr. Searby, the parochial vicar at SEAS, joked as he spoke about them, that now they are off to college and done serving, that the average height of his altar servers was going to drop drastically and he would no longer feel self-conscious standing next to them.  He had a point—all the guys are pretty tall, there must have been something in Lake Ridge’s water back in 1992 when they were all born.  DSC04043 DSC04045 DSC04047

After church Christopher went back out with his girlfriend and the rest of us spent the day hanging out at the house, and Trevor went swimming in a little pool on the back deck.  He loved it!  He has fun in our pool at home, but he always has to be in a float or held by someone, so I am sure he really loved the extra freedom. We had a great weekend trip and a super easy drive home, Trevor stayed awake for most of it.  Once we got home, Trevor went right to sleep and Shane and I did some unpacking before we did the same.

Congratulations Christopher!  Good luck at WVU!

Finally a Break

…..from the heat!

**please note that this post was written over a week ago**

The heatwave that had settled into our area for the past two weeks or so has finally broken and the temperatures have dropped from the mid-nineties to the lower eighties.  Thank goodness!  Now we can spend more time playing outside and not have to deal with a super-cranky Trevor by the time the afternoon rolls around.

This evening (Tuesday) we got finished with cleaning up from dinner earlier than usual so we headed out for a walk.  Once we got back from the walk, Trevor played in the front yard for a bit (we are trying to get him over his fear of—get this—grass).

One Amazing Haircut

Trevor didn’t do so well when we got his first haircut, so I really procrastinated getting it cut again.  With all this heat though, he needed a haircut really really bad.  So we went from this:DSC03944

Memorial Day Weekend

The three day Memorial Day weekend flew by for us!  We were super busy and had TONS of fun, but when Monday night rolled around and we had to get ready to head back to work, I really wondered where the last three days had gone.

Friday Shane got off work pretty early so we just spent the day around the house doing some cleaning up and organizing and lounging in the pool.  That evening, we headed up to Peninsula Town Center in Hampton just to walk around.  It was our first time going to that ‘shopping mall’ since it opened in March.  It was pretty nice!  All of the stores are outside so it like walking around a little village.

Saturday morning, Shane and Trevor got up before I did so that they could make breakfast like they normally do every Saturday.  After breakfast, Shane and Trevor got dressed and ready to go to Babygarten while I headed up to Hampton to do some shopping at BJs.  Saturday afternoon Trevor took a long nap so I was able to get a lot of housecleaning done and then head outside to work on cleaning the pool before he woke up.  We went to the Saturday evening mass as a family and then had dinner with Andrea and Chris before heading back to Portsmouth for the night.

Sunday morning I got up and went into work for a few hours while the boys hung out at home and waited for my parents to come into town.  They arrived at around 1 and then Cliff came over after having been out to sea for a month.  We all enjoyed swimming in the pool for the afternoon and cooked out on the grill.  We had gotten enough sun(burn) by about 6 and came in the house just in time for the skies to open up with a wicked storm that lasted all of 30 minutes.  Too bad it didn’t cool the temperature off so much.

Monday we played it pretty low key and the three of us hung out at the house most of the day.  After lunch we headed out and spent the afternoon in the pool and later on in the afternoon Andrea and Chris came by to cool off with us.  After they headed home for the day and Trevor was in bed for the night, I settled in to watch Sex in the City…..no, I don’t mean that I went to the theater to watch the second movie.  nor do I mean that I re-watched my DVD collection (however, if someone has the seasons on DVD and would like to let me borrow them, please let me know)  I watched the first movie….for the first time.  I know that I am like two years late, and even more years late to be watching the show…but I loved the movie—boy, I was missing out!

Anyway, we had a great Memorial Day weekend….it was so nice to be able to relax and enjoy being together with family and good friends.  We definitely are thankful to all service members—past, present and future, that make it possible for us to enjoy weekends like this at all.
