Soccer Saturdays 4.27.2013

Cell phone photos will have to suffice for this week's Soccer Saturday....can't believe we only have two more weeks of games before spring season is over.  It doesn't really feel like spring at all yet here (at least not consistently) so it is strange to think that our 'spring' season is over and that it is time for summer activities.

Iowa in the Blink of an Eye

Last weekend we took a blitz of a trip out to Iowa to spend some time with Liz and Daryl and meet their beautiful baby girl Maggie.  Shane and I were so honored to be asked to be her Godparents, so off to Iowa I went (obviously, Shane is a little busy right now)!

The trip out there went well...Trevor did okay on the plane and it was overall uneventful as far as travel was concerned.

Once we arrived, we spent some time with baby Maggie and the family and spent the evening in Pella, Iowa (as in, Pella windows and doors) where they had these cool windmills everywhere.

Sunday was Maggie's special day, so we spent the time celebrating her!

Shane and I are pretty sure we have the most beautiful Godchild in the world!!

If you build it...

there is no guarantee that anything will come.  Or so is the lesson we are learning from our birdhouse that Trevor has up in the backyard.

He got a plain wooden birdhouse for Easter this year, and during break we spent an afternoon painting and decorating it and hug it on a hood out at the back of our property.

As of yet, no birds have taken up residence...despite the plethora of birds that we have spent countless hours watching out there this spring.  Ah well.  We tried.

Sharing

Because I am too tired to sift through all the fun that is currently saved on my memory card to come up with a decent post, I will share an e-mail sent to Shaner earlier this afternoon.

From: Kimberly Chapman

Subject: Things I Love....or not.

I love.....
being 23 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.
living on half an acre in a nice neighborhood.

I don't love....
mowing that half an acre while 23 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.

You're welcome....for the childbearing and the lawn mowing.

Love you.

He responded by telling me that when I decide I am human, he'll hire a lawn service for the summer.  Good man.

...I am going to tough it out for a while though.

Spring Break

Even as I sit to write this post, I am not sure if I want to consider this past week a break, or not.  I did only go into the office 2.5 times this week, instead of my usual 6 days...I did get to spend time just hanging out with my little sidekick T-rex, but with Shaner gone that is nothing too new either.  Considering that I was coming off of Holy Week, I am definitely rested up, but we kept busy and were on the go.  Time passed quickly, which was great so all in all I would say the week was a success.
We did have a great amount of fun around here--more posts to come on that later.  The best part of the week was definitely skyping with Shaner (twice!!) and Trevor and I were both over the moon to see his face and hear his voice for a little while.  We won't be able to do that again for who knows how long, so we are just holding on to all the warm fuzzies from our conversations with him.
Tonight I plan on stuffing a million Easter eggs for the church's egg hunt tomorrow (at least it is a no candy hunt!) and tomorrow it is back to the usual grind.  Happy Saturday!

Soccer Saturdays 4.6.2013

It still doesn't feel like spring soccer here, but at least it wasn't raining today!

Trevor is still having a great time playing and is all about getting out there and having fun.

This is probably my favorite part of every game...when they line up to shake hands with the other team.  Too adorable!

an amazing Monday...

This morning I was woken up, not by T-rex jumping on the bed demanding his daily "YOGURT AND JUICE!"  but by the sunlight that started to stream in through my window.  The clock said--wait for it--7:30. Amen, friends....I'll take it.

And since then, the day has just gotten better and better.....

Shaner had access to skype, and after some technical issues, we were able to talk.

At the risk of sounding super cheesy, I will say that the laptop my parents and I got him for Christmas may have cost some pretty pennies, but seeing and talking to my best friend [at the same time!!] after a couple of weeks was priceless.  Wouldn't trade it for the world.

After our phone call, some nice little packages arrived from our friendly mailman.....

This:
I am going to go ahead and say that Shane and I will have the best dressed Goddaughter in all of Iowa come two weeks from now.  Because it is the truth, you know.  {we love you maggie!}

And this:

That, is a box of boxes.  APO/FPO shipping boxes to be precise.  25 of them bad boys!  Let the care package mania commence!  (I'll post photos of the boxes after Shaner receives them....otherwise it would ruin the surprise for him!)

So, all in all, a pretty fabulous day....especially when you factor in that it is 71 degrees and sunny.
Happy Spring!

Happy Easter!

We had an amazing Easter here!  After a super busy Holy Week full of work, work, more work and numerous church services, Trevor and I are looking forward to a relaxing week of spring break!

The Easter bunny must have known that we were looking forward to our week of fun together, because he brought Trevor tons of stuff so that he can get creative around the house.  In the next week, I plan on us doing lots of painting, puppet shows and creating things for Shaner's care packages.
