Jumperoo!
This past Friday, Shane, Trevor and I braved the never-ending rain to go out to Babies R Us in Greenbrier to get him a Jumparoo. Trevor started playing in an exersaucer while at work with me earlier in the week, so we wanted to get him something similar to have at home. We set it up that evening and he has been having a blast in it ever since.

Kure Beach
The first week of August, we packed up and headed to North Carolina for our first family vacation in Kure Beach. Shane and I went last year and had a decent time (correction: Shane had a great time, I was miserable being newly pregnant/sick....together that evens out to decent). This year, we got a different condo for the week which made a lot more available to us with the rental and had a great time.
Saturday we drove down and arrived at our condo at about 5:30 p.m. After checking out our awesome accomodations, we ran to the grocery store to get food for the week and then spent the evening settling in and relaxing from being in the car. Here are some pictures of the place:
Sunday morning we all woke by nine, had breakfast and then headed out for a walk. We went to see the indoor recreation center that was in the condo complex and then went across the street to one of the complex's beach access boardwalks. We walked down the beach, enjoying the view and then walked in the water for a bit. Trevor even put his toes in! He wasn't bothered at all by the sound of the waves! After our walk, we headed inside and put our swimsuits on and headed to the pool for the rest of the morning. We headed in for lunch and for Trevor to take his afternoon nap. During his nap it ended up pouring so we spent the evening there at the condo playing and reading books as a family.
The rest of the week followed the same daily schedule, which was nice--we didn't expect Trevor to stick to such a schedule being in a different environment, but he did wonderfully! The daily schedule was something like this:
Wake Up/Breakfast
Beach for 1.5-2 hours
Pool until 12:30ish
Lunch/Trevor's Afternoon Nap 1-3ish
Family Outing Activity
Pool (depending on timing of the outing)
Dinner
Playtime/Reading
Bedtime
......tons of time to relax and just enjoy being a family together!!
Monday we spent the afternoon in downtown Wilmington. We walked along the riverwalk and then through some of the different shops that downtown had to offer. It was so nice to be outside and to just walk around.
Tuesday afternoon we went to the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. It isn't a base or anything fancy, but they have rentals and campsites available to military members and their families to vacation at the beach as well as a fishing pier on the Cape Fear River, a restaraunt and a military history museum. We just walked around and saw all that it had to offer. After the Recreation Area, we went to the Carolina Beach pier and enjoyed the view for a bit.
Wednesday we visited the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Not much has changed since we went last year, but it was a nice way to spend the afternoon. Trevor of course had no idea what he was looking at, but he was fascinated by the bright colors and movement of the fish in the tanks. That evening we went out to dinner at Jack Mackerels and then walked on the Kure Beach pier at sunset. Trevor loved the pier! He laughed and squealed with the wind blowing in his face and tried to talk to the pelican that was hanging out on the pier.
Thursday it rained for most of the afternoon, but did clear up by evening time. That evening, we drove up to Carolina Beach to watch the fireworks. Trevor had a good time watching all of the bright colors and we were far enough away that it wasn't too bright or loud for him.
Friday was our last day and we spent it as usual, at the beach and pool and then made another visit to the Kure Beach pier since Trevor had such a great time on Wednesday night.
We had a great week and can't wait to go back next year. On our way out of town we reserved our same condo for the same week next summer. Let the countdown begin!

feet are for dessert!
At Trevor's 4 month checkup, our pediatrician gave us the green light to start solids. Since then, we have tried cereal (which Trevor gags when eating--can't blame him) peas, and tried green beans last night. Another milestone since the appointment is that Trevor has now discovered that his feet can reach his mouth! (He has been staring at them and holding them for about a month)
While feeding him his green beans this evening, it was an ongoing battle to make sure that his feet were not going into his mouth. Dinner time went something like this:
--spoonful of green beans in mouth
--wait for Trevor to swallow
--take Trevor's foot out of his hands while en route to his mouth
--make sure Trevor is done swallowing
---Repeat
........................a million times.....
By halfway through, I found myself telling Trevor over and over "Feet are for dessert!"

It Is Here!!!
Finally! Since before Trevor was born, I have been working on a huge work project--running our Vacation Bible School program. I used to think that it was no big deal and was going to be easy to plan and execute....ah, how clueless I was. I started planning at the beginning of March and have been going non stop since. Finally, VBS is taking place this week. We spent all last week decorating the commons (our multi purpose room) and we jumped into a week of fun this Monday at 9AM.
Here are some pictures of the commons turned into an African Savannah:
So far the week has gone well...I have, after all, survived 3 days of 50 pre-k through 4th graders running around for three hours a day. Everyone is having an outstanding time, and it really seems as if all of my hard work is paying off. (at least I hope so!).....I'll have a final recap at the end of the week.

Trevorsaurus
Earlier this summer, my parents and brother went to Disney for a week. While they were there, they visited a spin-off of Build A Bear called Build a Dino. My brother made a dinosaur for my brother and named it Trevorsaurus. He gave it to him this weekend and Trevor loves it! Too bad it is bigger than he is! That doesn't mean that he doesn't play and talk and snuggle with the Trevorsaurus nonstop!
ODU Soccer
This past weekend my brother took part in a soccer camp here at ODU. On Friday night, the guys in his camp played a game against the ODU team, so we headed to campus to watch him play. Trevor was good watching the game, was definitely fascinated with everyone running around and the bright stadium lights that we on. We left after the first half so that we could get him in bed at a decent hour, but it was still nice to see my brother play.
massive updates....
So, again I prove myself to be an eternal slacker when it comes to our blog....my last post was July 10th, and BOY has a lot happened since then!
for example--two months from yesterday, we will no longer be renting!!! FINALLY!
On July 12th--we went to a showing of a house we had been (stalking), i mean, heavily interested in nearby to our current home...(oh come on, if you have bought a house you know you drove by once or twice, or ten times)
On July 17th, we saw the house for a second time with our real estate agent (who is downright fabulous btw--let us know if you are in need of a Realtor in the HR area) and put in an offer....
July 18-20th, dealt with some negotiations....and finally got everything settled out....
Officially under contract: July 23rd
Our home inspection went great, no major issues with the house, or surprises that the seller didn't already know about.....
Mortgage approved--July 27th.....
Barring any huge complications (ie, the appraisal--but we aren't worried, we got a stellar deal for the neighborhood) we should be homeowners September 28th. YAY!!!
So where is the photo of this house? Well, that is a funny story. I haven't taken one. Now that I get around to blogging about it, the listing has been taken off of the MLS website, so no picture from there either. However, my parents were in town this past weekend and so we drove by to show it to them. My dad got some pictures (Shane and I were most excited about the "under contract" sign that is now in the front yard) and is supposed to be sending them to me....it will probably be a week though, since they are in fabulous Connecticut until early next week.
