Happy Mardi Gras!

Fat Tuesday is here!  (Which means Lent starts tomorrow and my life goes into warp-speed as we sprint towards Holy Week and Triduum….)  Since today is supposed to be a day of indulging yourself before Lent begins, feel free to indulge in some amazing pictures of Trevor at 6 months courtesy of  our friend Dana.  www.danaduncanphotography.com/blog 

Now that my bragging is over….Trevor and I are off to work…dressed for Mardi Gras.  Why you ask?  Well, last year, this was the rest of the parish staff:

The End is Near…

Trevor has started to pull up to standing on a regular basis…I fear that walking is really right around the corner.  He isn’t cruising on the furniture yet, he is still happy pulling up one place, falling down on his bum, crawling to another place, pulling up and then repeating.  All that I can handle, but walking scares me out of my mind…..I know the solution is “gates gates gates..” and I have those, (my two “lovely” dogs, remember)…but still….I am just going to be thankful that we have a ranch style house (i.e. no stairs, and no way to make a circle through the entire place—my poor mother when she was raising Chris and I—)

Snowed In Art Project

Once day two of being snowed in hit, the cabin fever was starting to set in for all three of us.  To change it up a bit, we pulled out some paper and crayons and let Trevor have a go at his first art project. 

Winter Storm 2010

So the Hampton Roads weathermen finally got it right—we got snow!! And tons of it!

Saturday morning we woke up to snow covering everything.  At that point, around 8am we had about 3 inches.  It was so pretty outside!  We let the dogs go out first to enjoy the snow and spent a good part of the morning doing things around the house and playing.  After Trevor got up from his morning nap we all bundled up and headed outside to play for a bit.  Truth be told, we spent more time getting dressed and undressed than we actually spent outside.

 

Today once Trevor got up from his afternoon nap, we ventured out again.  Since the show wasn’t blowing into his face, Trevor spent a bit more time outside today and really played in the snow.  He attempted to crawl for a bit, but being all bundled up made it hard for him to get around…and eventually he face planted in the snow.  Surprisingly he didn’t get upset or mad with the cold snow on his face. 

Playtime and Park-time

In addition to all the work that got done around here this weekend, we also did some fun stuff!

Saturday night, our friends Laura and Mike came over for dinner with their adorable daughter Caylee.  Trevor and Caylee had a great time playing once they warmed up to each other.  Once the kiddos went to sleep, the four of us hung out and played games.  It was a really great night!

Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day!  The temperatures were close to 70 degrees, so once I got home from work, I insisted that we pack up and head to the park.  We drove over to Bennett’s Creek park and spent some time with Trevor on the playground.  Shane and I took him down the slide a few times, and he didn’t know what to make of that, but he LOVED the swings. 

Weekend Project

This weekend, Shane and our friend Cliff tacked our biggest new-homeowner project to-date…the backyard.  Dun Dun Dun…

For a little background information, our house sits on .4 acres,   two thirds of which, is the backyard.  The previous owners of our house didn’t do much with it.  Read:  NOTHING.  When we moved in, the backyard was a bit of cleared grass and then a full-on section of wilderness.  The trees were all covered with vines and overgrowth..and let’s not even talk about what has been found underneath all that overgrowth.

This weekend, Shane and Cliff spent most of the day Saturday, and then again Sunday clearing out the backyard.  They filled up a trailer with all of the stuff, and have two huge piles waiting for to go to the dump as well.  I will comment on some of the ‘nice’ things found out there (and by nice, I mean the stuff I no longer have to spend money at Home Depot to get)—a wheelbarrow, and an ax—nice, right?

Happy Birthday Uncle Chris!

My little brother turned eighteen last week on the 13th (I was at work for most of the day so did not get his post up).  Happy Birthday  Uncle Chris!  We love you!
